Memories of 21 July 2004
Shanghai
Woke up very early today coz have to pack up and get ready to check out of the hotel. Had to pack what we have bought over the last week into our luggage bag. At 8.30am, we met at the hotel lobby and waited for instructions from Sandy on what time to met and the various ways on where we could come back to the hotels and where we could go.
The 8 of us as one group again decided to visit the "Wai Tan" . By 10.30am, we were at "Wai Tan". At "Wai Tan", you can see the old and new buildings, a mixture. We went to see the famous "Peace Hotel" and were introduced more on the "Peace Hotel". We went to see the banks too. There were AIA here too. Intially want to go on ""Wai Tan Guan Guang Shui Dao" but decided not to do so cause "Xiao Yuan" said there was nothing to see.
We had lunch at a traditional tea restaruant, name unknown. The restaurant had a normal dinning area and also a place for drinking tea. We had our dinner at the tea drinking session. It's a wood-like restaurant, very beautiful surroundings and elegant design. We had a very nice lunch here. Mr Wong paid for the lunch cos we paid for the dinner yesterday. "Xiao Yuan" & "Xiao Cai" dropped us at "Xu Jia Hui" MRT station for us to continue the tour on our own.
At 2.30pm, the 6 of us went to take the MRT to "Ren Ming Guang Chang". There were many people on board the train but the MRT was very fast. We went to the various big shopping centres there and shop. I bought another bag which I like a lot. Along the way, we also bought various other stuffs. As "Ren Ming Guang Chang" was near to NanJing Road, we tried to walk there but could not found our way around until then, I decided to take the train to Nanjing Road when we finally realized that we were already on Nanjing Road. So we walked around Nanjing Road on our own before we re-meet up again for dinner. We went to buy clothes again, postcards, sweets, take pictures, take the tram along Nanjing Road, visit the bookshop etc. We had dinner at the same restaurant when we were here 2 days ago. Ivy treated us to the dinner.
After dinner, we hurried back to hotel scaring we will miss the meeting time of 8.30pm at the hotel. It was quick easy to halt a cab but the road was just too dangerous. But we managed to get back on time. We boarded the bus and left for Shanghai Pudong Airport.
On the way to Pudong Airport, "Xiao Yuan" thanks us for visiting the places, say he had a wonderful time with us. We also had a nice time with us. "Xiao Cai" was also on the bus to send us to airport. I think we had too many luggages that the 3 of us were not able to carry. But luckily, "Xiao Yuan" and "Xiao Cai" helped us to carry our luggages onto the trolley. Then they still helped us to push the trolley. We bidded "Xiao Cai" and " Xiao Yuan" goodbye when we need to check-in.
This was the receipt given when we paid our airport taxes. We had a card like the MRT ticket which we just put in the ticket and went over and the tax had been paid and this recipet came out.
This was my air-ticket back to Singapore. I am still taking the China Eastern Airlines Plane Number MU 543 . We waited and boarded the plane at 11.30am and got ready to fly back to Singapore.
My Thoughts:
It was very nice of "Xiao Yuan" and "Xiao Cai" to bring us around even though they were not oblighted to do so. Actually, we had quite a nice time the previous night, so they don't mind bringing us around.
Lunch was good today. I like the restaurant very much but dont' know the restaurant name. What a pity!!! Taking the MRT was a fun one because I had never taken MRT in Shanghai before. The MRT ride was good even though there were many people on a weekday afternoon. The various shopping centres were great too. 8 levels of shopping items from perfume, clothes, shoes, books, toys etc..... 2nd visit to Nanjing Road allowed me to pick up some postcards for memories. I think I bought 10-15 postacards pack and they were not too expensive. Basically, we did not want to buy too many things else have to try to squeeze everything into the bag at the hotel lobby. Think of that also scared.
